Fisher Receives Stem Cell Funds

Fisher Receives Stem Cell Funds

Fischell Department of Bioengineering Assistant Professor John Fisher has garnered the only Maryland Stem Cell Research Fund grant for research on the College Park campus for his work on regenerating human facial bone.

Twenty-four grants were give out by the fund last week in the first round of awards under the Stem Cell Research Act of 2006. The awards are administered by the Maryland Stem Cell Commission, which is a division of the Maryland Technology Development Corp.

The amounts of the awards have not been finalized yet. The maximum that could be awarded for each grant is $500,000 a year for 3 years.
